10th Grade, Matt’s final student picture
About Us
From the beginning, Matthew was fascinated by everything digital. At 3, he figured out how to launch the VCR, at 5, he began playing “Mario Brothers,” joined the Nintendo Fan Club a year later and by age 10 was a charter member of Nintendo Power — Nintendo’s premiere magazine — receiving monthly editions throughout his life. Earmarking pages with clues and algorithms, Matt quickly became the “go-to” resource for his fellow gamers. Moving from games to movies was an inevitable journey. With the coming of “Star Wars,” “Indiana Jones,” and “Jurassic Park” Matt became more enamored with the technical prowess of Spielberg and Lucas and began to imagine his future in their footsteps.
Honoring Matt’s voracious creative spirit, The Matthew S. Hisiger Film Foundation was created. A not-for-profit organization dedicated to nurturing high school students who have an interest in filmmaking, screenwriting and videography. The programs (offered free of charge) and services of the Foundation include:
10 month intensive film study course (October to June)
lecture series featuring industry professionals
The Westchester County Future Filmmaker’s Film Festival (2009-2019)
internships
scholarships for college film studies
funding to support creative educational facilities
These activities highlight the mission of the Foundation: to provide local high school students with the resources, information, creative inspiration and financial support they need to pursue a career in filmmaking.
We invite those who share in Matthew’s passion for film to be part of our organization. Your financial support or donation of goods and services will sustain the legacy, and invest in the future of the art of filmmaking.
